Joy has been doing something funny lately. When she wants to go somewhere she doesn't just point, she does this motion. She points her arm straight up in the air and brings it down in a circular motion and points it straight. She looks like an air traffic controller. I guess when you have 3 sisters and a brother, you spend your days directing traffic.
We went for a hike on Saturday before it got too hot. There was only a little bit of whining. (If we go all the way up there, then we'll have to walk all the way back down.) I think the kids had a good time. It was a little bit steep but pretty short and GORGEOUS views.
I love snuggling up a freshly bathed baby. There's nothing better, straight from the bath, smelling clean. They are cold and wet so they actually enjoy being snuggled up and warmed by their mommy. Most of the time I just sit on the toilet (top down of course) and hold on as long as they let me. Sometimes if I'm lucky and they're tired or something, I can prolong it and move to a couch before they squirm away, the naked bum running down the hall.
So I heard a lady on Dr. Laura today call in and ask how to get her turning 4 in July child to stop sucking his middle and index finger. Interesting...There are so many parenting issues that I address head-on that this is not going to be one of them. Plus how cute is this thumbsucker. We'll just deal with the orthodontist later.
The girls went to a cast party at a place that is better than a zoo. They have bunnies, a noisy peacock, a llama, and many different varieties of birds. Somebody set up a waterslide and "voila" instant party. Joy wandered around and ate any abandoned food off people's plates. This is the noisiest and most beautiful peacock.
Well wouldn't you know it. I had to google another name for a group of feathered creatures. We had a quail family hatch under the trampoline. The mom and dad are very protective but you can occasionally see a few chicks following the parents around. When we get too close the parents freak and the chicks scatter. There is one chick that seems to be always a little behind the rest of the group. The have nested in the bushes by our fence. We have turned into a regular bird sanctuary. I couldn't get close enough to get a picture of the chicks. I don't have a good zoom lens. Here's the dad on the fence. At the back of the garden you can see the mom and one little chick if you look carefully. I wish I could post a sound byte of how noisy they get when you get near those chicks.
Our little Joy passed away on January 20, 2008. She was 2 years and 3 months old. She died from a rapid onset respiratory virus and passed away in her sleep. She was in the care of her loving grandparents at the time while her parents and older siblings were in Disneyland.
I am so grateful that I started blogging 9 months before she died. These memories of her a a real treasure.
"The Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude."
~Joseph B. Wirthlin
"Parents who have surrendered the sweetest and smallest flowers from the family's garden need to remember our Heavenly Father. He has promised a special reward to those who now suffer in silence, who spend long days and longer nights through their trying times of bereavement. Our Creator has promised glory. He said, 'For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but nigh at hand.' (D&C 58:4) That promised glory includes the blessing of reunion with each child who has left the family circle to help surviving members of the family to draw nearer to God. Those children still live and are a heritage to the Lord."
