I love fall...

It was one of the things I missed when I lived away. I love the leaves changing. I love jacket weather. I love baking pumpkin everything. These are delish. So are these. I love the return of my shows. (Any JAM {Jim and Pam} fans? Hooray for the office!)

or I could just keep posting Joy's messes.....

We grew this watermelon in our garden!

I actually found her holding the knife but I grabbed it away instead of running for my camera.(I know some of you think I'm not a responsible parent but there's proof!)

Never...

Leave the peanut butter out!

On the way home from the soccer game, (#3 scored a goal, Hooray!) I got a call from #1 who had generously offered to stay home with Joy. It was freezing so I thought this was a great idea. "Mom, I'm soooooooooo sorry. I wasn't really watching her. (I'm thinking, what, did she get hurt? Is she okay?) You know those loaves of pumpkin bread you made for your visiting teaching people..." Curses!

Forever Friends

It all started with a dream I had a few nights ago. I was accused of something. Some of the accusers were old friends. It seemed that everyone was against me. One person, a friend I met in college, stood up for me. In the dream, she traveled for miles and suffered several hardships in defense of me. Ironically, I haven't talked to this friend for over two years. I am ashamed to say that I now live about 20 minutes from her and I still haven't called her. This dream started my reflections on friends.

A month and a half ago we got together with some friends for dinner. I call these girls my Salinas Sisters. You know those kind of friends. We had our babies together. We got up at 5:30am to exercise together. We helped each other through those rough times. We were each others family. We spent six hours talking, laughing, eating. (All good times involve food, right?) Even if we don't see each other often, you can just pick up where you left off.

One day, after I moved to Salinas, I had a day of homesickness. I missed the family and friends we'd left in Logan. On this day, I got a call from one of these Salinas Sisters. It was a business call about something for primary, not necessarily a call about being my friend. A thought came into my head, "If you hadn't moved from Logan, you never would have met Nikki Welker."
Salinas proved to be a great move for our family. We met and loved so many people that we never would have known had we not wanted to leave our comfort zone of Logan.

Now here we are again. It's been over a year. I've made friends, I have. I still feel like the new kid on the block. I still miss Second Sunday. I miss our 10pm chick flick movie going. I miss our Stake Conference picnic on the beach. I miss birthday lunches. I miss park day. I miss the salty moist air of living by the ocean. (Does that have anything to do with friendship?)

Everybody needs a friend. The kind of friend that you're not embarrassed if they come in and sweep your floor. The kind of friend you can cry to when you get called to the principal's office. The kind of friend that you can drop the kids off in a moments notice. Luckily, wherever I go, I seem to find these friends.

Oreo Cupcakes

I'm afraid I don't make cupcakes very often. Maybe it's the fact that #2 can't eat them. Maybe it's that I would eat them all. Actually you know I'm an ice cream girl at heart. I told the boy we were going to make cupcakes and he said, "Is it my birthday?"Nope it's just a cupcake day. We found these Diego cupcake liners and off we went.

Julianne, I promise her hair was done this morning. She ripped it out during naptime.

The Waddles

Joy asks every day, every minute when she can watch the waddles (wiggles). I'm afraid I cave in when I'm busy doing something because it's a guarantee that she's not into any trouble.

My new goal is only once a day. I have got to get over my love of watching grown men sing and dance.

Canning Chaos

In order for this to not become the canning blog, I've not posted daily. This is what I've been doing.

This was our Friday Night Date. Canning Pasta Sauce. Mike acts like it was laborious but the rewards are worth it, Right?

Then we did peaches...

We did 28 quarts for me, 20 quarts for Trenna, and 14 for Mom.

Backy Back

Joy has been saying this mysterious word lately and tonight we found out what it meant. She would point at her dad or me and say Backy Back. We figured it out when #1 walked in the room and said "Piggy Back." She pulled Joy up and carried her around all night.
