This talk was given at a BYU devotional on January 15. This talk is so timely considering our family's circumstances and for those mourning the prophet. His words have brought me some comfort.
what a great talk. i always love listening to him. he came and talked when i was at the MTC...it was very powerful. he does always seem to speak directly to you about things that you need. his words always move me. i'm glad that they were able to bring you some comfort. blessings to you and your family!
Thanks for sharing this, Tami. His words were very tender and comforting. I loved the part where he said, "Good people around you will try to understand your grief at the passing of a loved one. They may feel grief themselves. The Savior not only understands and feels grief but also feels your personal grief that only you feel." It makes me feel better for you and your family b/c I've known all along I can't really understand what you are feeling, but now I realize even more that the Savior really can.
I love you!
P.S. I was planning on coming down tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be awful and I'm a chicken about driving through Sardine Canyon in a blizzard - so I'll probably postpone. I'll call you later and see if I can drop in another time (or maybe see you in IF this weekend).
Tami, I hope that you have been having some feelings of comfort. I have been thinking and praying for you and for your family. Maegan told me about your blog. I hope it's o.k. that I added you to my friend's list on my new blog. You have inspired me to start a blog to keep in touch with friends. I have just loved yours! You can check it out if you want. kristinandrusty.blogspot.com
Our little Joy passed away on January 20, 2008. She was 2 years and 3 months old. She died from a rapid onset respiratory virus and passed away in her sleep. She was in the care of her loving grandparents at the time while her parents and older siblings were in Disneyland.
I am so grateful that I started blogging 9 months before she died. These memories of her a a real treasure.
"The Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude."
~Joseph B. Wirthlin
"Parents who have surrendered the sweetest and smallest flowers from the family's garden need to remember our Heavenly Father. He has promised a special reward to those who now suffer in silence, who spend long days and longer nights through their trying times of bereavement. Our Creator has promised glory. He said, 'For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but nigh at hand.' (D&C 58:4) That promised glory includes the blessing of reunion with each child who has left the family circle to help surviving members of the family to draw nearer to God. Those children still live and are a heritage to the Lord."
