I have been collecting Joy ornaments for the past year to decorate a tree in memory of my daughter. This year it is a four foot small tree with pink ribbons. I am hoping to collect enough ornaments to eventually have a large tree entirely filled with Joy ornaments. Here are a few of my favorites.
Every time I see the tree, I feel so much Joy. And then I sort of chuckle and think that if she were here, she would probably pull the ornaments off and carry them around proclaiming that they are "so pretty."
I was thinking when I read this that it was a good thing you had the inspiration to name Joy what you did because the name is not only perfect for the Christmas season but also thinking about her sweet, joyful personality and how much joy she brought to others. I love the Joy tree.
What a great idea! Now whenever I see a Joy ornament I'll think of your family. You probably don't remember me, but I was one of Teri's roommates at the Y. I've enjoyed keeping up with your blog the past year. Your family is beautiful!
I love, I love, I LOVE this tree. What a terrific wonderful idea. I love that it's right near your living room so you can see it while you're all in there.
LOVE it. "So pretty." I can hear her saying it now.
Brilliant. I have been thinking of your little Joy as I see her name all over this season. What a great way to honor her place in your heart, your family, and our world.
Our little Joy passed away on January 20, 2008. She was 2 years and 3 months old. She died from a rapid onset respiratory virus and passed away in her sleep. She was in the care of her loving grandparents at the time while her parents and older siblings were in Disneyland.
I am so grateful that I started blogging 9 months before she died. These memories of her a a real treasure.
"The Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude."
~Joseph B. Wirthlin
"Parents who have surrendered the sweetest and smallest flowers from the family's garden need to remember our Heavenly Father. He has promised a special reward to those who now suffer in silence, who spend long days and longer nights through their trying times of bereavement. Our Creator has promised glory. He said, 'For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but nigh at hand.' (D&C 58:4) That promised glory includes the blessing of reunion with each child who has left the family circle to help surviving members of the family to draw nearer to God. Those children still live and are a heritage to the Lord."
Love, Love, Love the Joy tree! Everyone should have one :)
